"We live and we die by time. And we must not commit the sin of losing our track on time. " from "Castaway"
It seems we all spend time worrying about sinning, offending God in some way, disappointing and falling short. Every religion has their rules of what's right and what's wrong. Each religion has their "rule book" to play by. Preachers, rabbis, priests, etc. get paid to preach to us about good vs. evil, wrong vs. right - as the offering plate is passed around so they can again the next week preach to us about good vs. evil, wrong vs. right, etc.
I can't recall ever being taught of the sin of losing track of our time. Of being told this is our one and only life here on earth and it is a sin to waste a moment of it. That God gave us life so that we may live. We aren't preached to about living for today, taking full advantage of the gift of life. We are preached to to live for our life after death. We are taught to spend our life on this earth preparing for our life in the hereafter.
Losing the track of our greatest gift - life and the time that we have to live it - is the greatest sin of all. It is thumbing our nose at God and every other diety to waste even a second of the precious gift of time.
I believe in a just and loving God who gave us life so that we may live and learn, and honor him by being decent, loving, and kind. Living in fear of our next life is not an honor to my God. Reaching out to those in need, respecting myself and others, forgiving my enemies - and myself, loving with all that I have, living for each and every moment, being in awe of the wonders he's created - that honors my God.
